Midtown Manhattan's famous holiday tree will come from East Greenbush, N.Y., and be lit during a live, broadcast event from Rockefeller Center in December. The tree chosen for the ceremony is a Norway Spruce, as it has been for more than four decades, and was donated by the Russ family, whose property the tree has adorned for 60 years.

A majestic Norway spruce now growing in upstate New York has been chosen to be this year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, officials announced Monday.

The tree, which will be adorned with over 50,000 multi-colored, energy-efficient LED lights and a Swarovski star, will be lit during the live broadcast “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” on Dec. 3.
