States typically redraw their congressional districts every 10 years, following the completion of the U.S. census. But with the Nov. 4 Special Election, Californians are being asked whether to allow for a rare mid-decade action to redistrict.

Detroit voters will choose a new mayor Tuesday in the city’s first open-seat mayoral race in a dozen years.

As of Tuesday, nearly 23,000 ballots had been cast before Election Day.
